A 14-year-old boy was found dead only a few days following being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his parent received a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from school personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called Kai's family landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Conclusion

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was freed while investigations proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any organization led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is impossible to determine his purpose."
