Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
